Since 1943, The New School has offered the bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts in a program intended specifically for adult students. The New School was the first college in New York City to enable students to finish their degrees through part- or full-time study in the day or evening.
The Bachelor’s Program at The New School for General Studies is an individualized program of study in the liberal arts for students returning to college to complete their undergraduate degrees. While it is one of several bachelor’s degree programs offered at the university, it is the only one designed specifically for adults. We believe that the understanding of the individual, society, and the world around us that comes from the study of the liberal arts should be at the heart of undergraduate education. We also believe in a learning process that is active and experiential and that encourages free inquiry and self-responsibility for learning.
